The Nottingham Arabidopsis Stock Centre contains up to half a million seeds for use in research in labs around the world. As such the seeds need to be stored at their optimum conditions. Seeds in the Arabidopsis stock centre can last for decades as long as they stored in a dry atmosphere at room temperature. For medium term storage the seeds are stored in controlled environment of 15ºC and 15% relative humidity. Under these conditions the seeds generally dry up to 5-6% moisture content. The basic requirement for storage of seeds is the need to keep them dry, cool and in a dark place. To help reduce seed moisture, the seeds are dry before they are stored by placing them in a porous bag and then into a fume cupboard. (www.Arabidopsis.info/protocol/commerce.html)
